The Alta program uses proven
grid-connected photovoltaic
technology. Photovoltaic panels are placed on the roof
of your new home or on a nearby frame. Panels are
engineered for rugged locations and will withstand cold,
snow, ice, hail and wind.
Whenever possible Alta recommends the use of photovoltaic panels
that have been manufactured using recycled semiconductor
materials since they offer additional environmental advantages.
 This technology converts the sun's energy directly into
electricity. Typical home installations provide a minimum of 20%
of the home's electricity needs and can provide up to 80% or
more.
These photovoltaic systems often produce more electricity
than a home needs. This excess electricity is
automatically sold back to the utility company at the same price
you pay for power. You'll actually see your electric meter run
backwards.
Solar energy
installations can even be designed to include
storage batteries that will provide instant backup power if the
utility company experiences a service interruption.
